Bloom Where the Soil is Right

Have you ever heard the phrase, “Bloom where you are planted”?

Usually, this phrase is accompanied by a meme of a resilient little plant somehow sprouting out of solid rock with zero soil and no nutrients. While it’s meant to be motivational, nature doesn't actually work that way.

Today, let's talk about a pair of brothers who could not bloom where they were planted. They tried, and tried, and it simply didn't work. The real moral of the story is this: You will bloom where the soil is right. And sometimes, that soil is not in your immediate backyard.

At the turn of the 20th century, Orville and Wilbur Wright started building gliders in Dayton, Ohio. They were deeply passionate about flight, building gliders, testing them, and making continuous improvements. They even built a custom wind tunnel right inside their bicycle shop to test over 200 different wing shapes. But local air conditions and limited open space meant it wasn’t enough. So, they did something bold: they packed up and traveled to North Carolina. Kitty Hawk offered the steady, favorable wind conditions they needed. After years of testing, adjusting, and adding a motor, the Wright brothers achieved history on December 17, 1903. That day, Orville and Wilbur made three successful flights, all under one minute long.

The Wright brothers tried to make it work in Dayton. They built the wind tunnel; they tried every possible at home. But ultimately, they had to seek out a new environment to achieve their breakthrough.

Yet, they didn't abandon Dayton.

Once they cracked the code, they brought their invention back home. They established their manufacturing, their business, and their lives right where they started, armed with the knowledge they gained from stepping outside their comfort zone.

Now, I am not suggesting you pack up your bags and move across the country. But the principle remains: Sometimes, in order to achieve your goals and break free of old cycles, you have to step outside of your comfortable environment. In building my financial coaching practice, I've had to do the exact same thing. I had to step outside my immediate physical community—through online spaces, networking, and digital outreach—to find the people who were ready to build financial clarity and freedom.

Why does this matter for your money?

There is a famous saying that you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. That applies to everything: your habits, your mindset, your attitude, and yes—your bank account. If your current financial "environment" consists of living paycheck-to-paycheck, normalizing debt, or avoiding looking at your statements because everyone around you is doing the same, your financial growth will stall. No amount of willpower can make you bloom in poor soil.

If you aren't where you want to be financially, it's time to change your environment. Expand your horizons, seek out new perspectives, and surround yourself with a mindset of abundance and intentionality. You can step away from old habits, gain clarity, and bring those new tools right back into your community and your life.

You don't have to figure out the blueprint alone. If you are ready to move toward the soil that will finally help you bloom, let’s have a chat. Click the link to schedule a Discovery Call today and let's build your financial clarity together.
