Step into the Life You Desire

I recently made a promise to myself. On the days that I am off from work, I am going to live the life that I desire every day. The life that I desire seems like a far cry from my current life, but I can still ease and manifest my way into the life I want—one step at a time.

Let’s go through an ideal day in my desired life, which includes watching sunrises and sunsets, cleansing dips in the healing saltwater of the ocean, doing morning or evening yoga on my deck or patio, exercising at my leisure (I love to move my body), good food that I don’t have to think about, a clean, organized house, lots of sun, and SPF! Yes, I realize work is not on the list, so just roll with me here!

I can’t quite live all of that on a random day off or holiday, but let’s pick apart piece-by-piece an ideal day in the life of Jessamyn.

For work, I wake up at 4:45 AM Monday through Friday. In my corner of the world, 4:45 AM is always earlier than the sunrise, no matter the time of year. There are very few days in which both my body and my cat allow me to sleep past 6:00 AM; so sunrise? Check! I also stay up past sunset (at all times of the year) unless I am completely and utterly exhausted. So let’s check off watching sunsets as well.

I don’t have a deck to do yoga on, but I can still do yoga in my living room. Not quite what I am looking for; however, I can rent an Airbnb in my city with a deck just for the experience of doing yoga on a deck and operating in a clean, mess-free environment for a day or two.

In addition to my full-time job, I teach yoga and cycling at my local gym. I love teaching both, but my true passion is running. I love running! Although I live in a small space, I have exercise equipment at home. For my birthday, I purchased a small, apartment-sized treadmill, and I absolutely LOVE it! Exercising at my leisure? Check!

My city has a lake with lots of beaches, although I wouldn’t dare swim in the dirty lake water, therefore I will have to wait on dips in the ocean.

Next on the list is a clean house and effortless meals. This requires some upfront effort, planning, and budgeting. I can budget for dining out or carryout on my off days, or I can meal prep at home in advance. Additionally, I can clean my house in advance or budget for a maid service to clean my house for me. A couple of Christmases ago, I gifted myself a countertop dishwasher. I have NEVER had a dishwasher. My small countertop dishwasher is not large enough to wash all of the dishes, but it is a huge help, especially since washing dishes is my least favorite chore. Clean house and effortless meals? With some advance planning… check!

Lastly, sunshine and lots of SPF. No matter where I am in the world, there won’t ALWAYS be sunshine. My job is to get outside and enjoy it whenever I can and always have sunscreen with me. Sunshine and SPF? Check.

Although I am not living the exact life I desire, I am also not that far off from it. Do I have some huge milestones ahead before I can absolutely live my desired life? Yes, absolutely. For example, having a deck requires renting a house with a deck, or purchasing a house with one (or enough space to build one). Nonetheless, I wrote this post to encourage you to baby-step your way into your desired life… whatever that may be.

Go gather that information, experiment, get that laundry service, test-drive that car, go to the new-build open house (one of my favorite activities). See how it feels to live it, if only for a passing moment. You may find that the experience ignites a fire in you to be laser-focused on achieving a goal, or you may find that you do not like something. There is nothing worse than achieving a goal just to figure out you don’t like it—how anticlimactic!

For example, I would love to have a deck for exercise and entertainment; however, decks need maintenance and treatments for pests like termites and carpenter bees. Also, decks are notorious for being attractive nesting areas for wildlife like skunks, groundhogs, and bears (depending on where you live). Perhaps deck maintenance requires too much time, money, and energy—all resources that I don’t necessarily want to give up. I will never know until I experience it. Whatever you choose to experience, I hope that you realize that you are, in fact, living some parts of your ideal life.

Manifest just means to make something real; it means that you are intentionally building a life that you desire through systems that work for you and your lifestyle. Manifesting is not just wishing on a star; instead it is taking allocated risks to reach your goal. Are you ready to step into your desired life? Freedom starts with a blueprint!
